Did You Receive Your Choice Of Fragrance For Christmas This Year?!

By now all our presents are well & truly gone from under the tree with most of us hopefully happy with what santa left for us (I certainly did pretty well!) However according to a recent survey commissioned by leading perfume house Givaudan (with TNS Omnibus), 46% of us British women do not receive the perfume of their choice at Christmas!!!

Here are some of the results -
• From the estimated £16.7 billion due to be spent in the UK this Christmas, fragrances for both men and women are high on the list.

• 46% of British women do not receive the perfume of their choice. More than a third of British men give away their fragrance gift because it is not the one they would have chosen.

• Southerners (64%), especially Londoners (67%), are more likely to be happy with their fragrance gift than Northerners (57%).

• Those from Wales are the hardest to buy perfume for, with a staggering 52% being disappointed with their gifts, compared to 32% from Greater London, the easiest men and women to buy for.

• Partners know your smell better than anyone else making them the ideal choice to buy you perfume this Christmas, but if their partner doesn’t, then almost a third of women rely on mum (25%) as the family member most likely to get their fragrance right.

• Friends are the worst at buying fragrance.

• Nearly three quarters of the population rely on dropping hints or just hoping for the best for Christmas.

Givaudan’s new iPhone app solves the problem by guiding users in choosing the right fragrance, sounds like a fairy godmother in gift buying, if only we had this before now!!!!!!

Linda Harman from Givaudan said,

Since launching the iPerfumer app for the iPhone back in July, we’ve seen an amazing response. Fragrance is a very personal thing and we wanted to remind people that we can help this Christmas. The right fragrance is a wonderful gift

About iPerfumer
iPerfumer is a personal fragrance consultant in your pocket, currently used by people in more than 150 countries.
Now available through free download from the iTunes App Store, iPerfumer is the first mobile perfume recommendation tool and this Christmas it will help to remove the confusion that often surrounds choosing perfume for others and yourself.

iPerfumer allows you to make an individual profile that then offers tailored advice on which perfumes you would like, providing you with a shortlist of fragrances best-suited to your individual character.

Unlike other perfume selection tools, iPerfumer does not rely purely on aromatic categorisation to make recommendations. Its suggestions are based on a mathematical calculation derived from the individual users and the fragrance preferences of the iPerfumer user community. Users can also find out which perfume on the market are liked by other perfume buyers.

Perfect for selecting the best fragrance in the Jan sales this year!

Festive Party Season Looks - False Eyelashes

With the party season well & truly here, the office party is looming, not forgetting all Xmas drinks & gatherings packed into our social calenders this Xmas, it's time to get those last minute beauty finishing touches! False eyelashes are a sure fire way to get some added glamour to any look & at this time of year you can't get enough glitz & sparkle so time to definitely push the boat out!
To get a bold look strip lashes are the best & give an extra glamourous touch to your make-up look, when applying the lashes lay them along your lash line before glueing in place to ensure the length works for your eye shape. If they are a little too long then simply snip the inner conner to let them fit better. Tilt your head back in from of the mirror & look down slightly as this is the best angle to apply them, only use a little glue (you don't want too much as it can make the eyes water!), place them on & hold for a few seconds until they start to dry.

Here are few of my favourites, ideal for the party season & that give fantastic results!

Eylure Girls Aloud False Eyelashes - From £5

Winter Sun Protection With Pure & Gentle

Skiing is a great sport which is fantastic for general fitness but all too many people forget the damaging effect Winter sun can have on your skin. When you're up a mountain, at altitude, the sun can be incredibly intense and UV exposure is higher than at ground level so you're soaking up increased levels of radiation. Features such as grass and trees that normally absorb the UV, are covered in snow meaning the UV is literally bouncing straight back at you so it’s imperative that you apply adequate protection to your skin. Online skin treatment specialist Pure and Gentle Skincare has put together some handy tips on caring for your skin on the slopes this Winter.

With 75,000 cases being reported each year Skin cancer is the commonest form of cancer in the UK and with the main risk factor being an increased exposure to ultraviolet radiation this figure is likely to rise. There are three main types of skin cancer, melanoma (the most serious, malignant type), squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. In all three, early detection is essential.

Winter Sun Tips from Pure and Gentle Skincare:

1. Anyone going skiing this winter your choice of sun protections should be as im portant as wearing clothing and using the correct equipment.

2. The ski slopes should be treated just like a beach and sun protection should be applied as liberally, if not more, as if you were stretched out on a sun-lounger.

3. Sun cream for skiing should be the highest factor tolerated, with a minimum SPF of 30. In addition sun cream should be broad spectrum to protect against both UVA & UVB, and should be applied every 2 hours. Sun blocks which contain a higher percentage of titanium dioxide or zinc oxide should be considered as they give excellent, long-lasting protection.

5. Do not forget to protect children – cream should be re-applied to their sk in even more regularly as younger skin is even more sensitive.

6. Finally pay careful attention to eyes - sunglasses or goggles with UV filters will give additional protection to the eyes and eyelids."

Pure and Gentle Skincare has a range of sunscreens for both adults and children, together with SPF moisturisers. Comprehensive information is provided on each product and many of its sunscreens are suitable for people with sensitive or allergic type skin along with those with eczema, psoriasis and acne. Products include Sunsense, Ultrasun, Lavera and The Sun Mousse, with prices ranging between £5 and £25. For further information visit www.pureandgentle.com

JIMI BUENCONSEJO's "THE GLAMAZONS" Holiday Collection 2011

Fashion is inherently complex, allowing endless interpretations, opening a whole world of possibilities.
JIMI BUENCONSEJO  returned after a  style gap of two decades with a collection that defined Jimi Buenconsejo. Contemporary in sensibility and form, he broke away from everything that’s very safe  (read, so normal!) bringing series of colors, silhouettes and figures he aptly called 'THE GLAMAZONS'.
Interwoven with mixed palette, he painted a "jungle" in his wardrobes. Texturized and handmade, the result was a riot of untamed energy exploding in eclectic decadent pieces. It's art-meets-fashion concept that explored Jimi's creativity...without a "PAUSE".

JIMI BUENCONSEJO is shaking up aesthetic norms with concepts that are playfully radical. A mix and match of eclectic influences that reflect what the designer is all about: unbridled creativity. The epitome of edgy chic, Buenconsejo sports dramatically layered mini skirts in tassels and an unstructured bodices and tempted to forget the ordinary.

He is firm that his ‘vision’, which emphasises complete freedom of expression and being in the "NOW", flows from the top to the bottom of the collection. This includes ‘unteaching’ all his artisans to let go of the typical stuff they’ve learnt and react to the present while creating. “We’re all about experimenting with whatever you’re feeling at the moment”, says Jimi.
Buenconsejo's out-of-the-box approach, was going beyond the standard format...leaving his clothes difficult to define.

A touch of punk rebelliousness, a hint of avant-garde and a lot of different influences run parallel. The gown with its exposed bones and braided leather tells a story of its own, where more is more is the new diktat.
The whole lot of detailing has gone into them, leaving few spaces to breath.

Buenconsejo's energetic collection, defiantly brushes the ordinary and consistently assertive from the choice of material to the tecniques of ornamentation.

Three short dresses with edgy geometric artform concentrated on quirky patterns in weaving and and hand knotting. Dashed with cut colored glasses, the warrior queens strutted the runway while the audience held their breath.

THE TOP 5 RUNWAY SHOWS IN DUBAI 2010

Suffocating humidity couldn’t keep the crowd away at the closing show at WHO'S NEXT IN DUBAI Fashion Event last October 2010. Hushing the buzz of standing- room- only crowd, all eyes were turning toward the runway as slender, tall models began emerging to show the ultra- chic ensemble from a very creative Dubai- based designer, ESSA.

The crowd, which was packed with fashionistas, celebrities and fashion editors, was wowed from the start, enthralled at the vibrant colors, vigorous motifs and eclectic styles of Essa Walla, the prince of Pret- a- Couture.

Meanwhile, after showcasing his first international show at the recent New York Couture Week 2011, EZRA SANTOS participated the STYLE ARABIA Event last month with intricately detailed pieces, then at the end of the show, EZRA SANTOS stood on the runway for seconds, receiving some well-deserved applause. It was a very short appearance for such an outstanding achievement.

Dubai, in less than a decade, made some impact transition from being a breeding ground of fresh talents and unlimited creativity in the Middle East to noted and more established global fashion city. 2010 was a heady mix of glamour and business year, combined with quirky highlights, the Dubai Fashion Week took the major spotlight followed by Who's Next In Dubai, Style Arabia and the lesser fashion events by the dozens..Fashion in Dubai will always be a repertoire of  beauty, delusions of fame, and the vulgarities of excess. Fashion shows have become adrenaline source in our  fashion calendar of make-believe.

FURNE ONE
I AM THE QUEEN!!
Dubai Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011

With fire and passion, Dubai-based Filipino designer FURNE ONE presented his Spring Collection at  Dubai Fashion Week2011.Unabashed and unapologetic, ONE, bends all rules and refuses to present the predictable, sinous silhouettes walked in the runway, straight from goth fantasy of warriors and queens. But this was no dream. This was a style reality, couture on a rampage.

FURNE ONE's bondages and gladiators-in-a plexus collection was tamely titled " I AM THE QUEEN!!!..a visual journey to the past, drawing inspiration from the golden age of Queen Elizabeth I. Combining textures, One's wood curved high heels and shoulder pads fused well with its bleached-stained canvas fibers worn out to have a raw feel.
FURNE ONE's edgy and unconventional elements of fiber twisted threads mixed with Swarovski crystals displayed exuberance in his hand embroidered gowns. The clever use of tye-and-dye graphic elements dashed with subtle shimmer complemented the models covered in canvas gallows.

EZRA SANTOS presented a fashionable and fabulous gowns, some were in short flirty frocks with elaborate bead works in shimmering Swarovski crystals and components and full swingy skirts cut a flattering silhouette in italian tulle. Beautifully cut, outfits were undeniably painted a pretty picture.

The laser cuts in an elephant motif adorned the voluminous skirt in beige tulle with bodices embellished with glitters. Weaved tulle in drop shouldered tight tops, jewelry set ornaments displayed the collections high attention to shimmers.

ESSA WALLA
OH! SAUVAGE
WHO'S NEXT IN DUBAI

ESSA's traditional and contemporary reference is inherent to its ethos. His inextricable link of sleek and structure define ESSA's inherent sensibility. That, his art is beyond the physical. That its sensibilities in something more unreachable and inscrutable, the mystique of which is known only to him.

ESSA's aesthetics come from his passion and his creative unconventional mind, radical and a sweeping statement. He has this gift, his languid ability to transform mere fabrics to amazing designs, taking it to a whole new level. His irresistible visuals sizzle the mind, very textural , sensual and experimental. He put humor into his clothes, he makes ordinary things seems extraordinary.
Essa's " Oh Sauvage "Collection at WHO'S NEXT IN DUBAI Fashion Event 2010 was his global travel, his Amazonian chic with Parisian flair , a boho-hippie collage in color riots.

ZAREENA YOUSUF
MARRAKECH EVENING
Dubai World Trade Center

Zareena Couture presented last night October 10, 2010  the  Haute Couture Collection 2011 at the World Trade Center Dubai. Elegantly crafted jalabiyas with western flavor strutted the super fabulous runway.
Zarrena Yousuf is an Emarati designer and owns the label Fasateen, whose works grace celebrities, fashionistas and royalties.

The bejeweled kaftans locally called jalabiyas, maintain harmonious balance between traditional and western influence. Inspired by the Moroccan ethnic silver and gold jewelries, the breathtaking pieces exuded luxury.
Chiffons and crepes were draped and pleated and inserted to waist and bodice. The colors in rainbow palette dazzled the exuberance of arabisque art pieces.

FALGUN and SHANE PEACOCK
DUBAI FASHION WEEK Spring/Summer 2011

Drawing inspiration from animal patterns, Falguni and Shane Peacock’s loud Spring/Summer line demanded attention and held attention in its celebratory tribute to life. The designer duo indulged in a process of layering digital prints over one another to result in a uniquely glamorous look. The collection was set off by some of Dubai’s well-known socialite women, demonstrating its easy wearability.

Ready-to-wear outfits alternated with avant-garde creations containing innovative shoulder pads and the generous use of leather. Short dresses in yellow, nude pink, deep blue and crimson were interwoven with the liberal use of black that added to the collection’s timeless appeal.Bold prints on short dresses and hard-wear dresses featured prints resembling bees, scales and tiger stripes, all animals on the brink of extinction.
