Backstage at Milan Fashion Week with Sam McKnight (Global Ambassador for Pantene Pro-V)

The Look: "Glamping" - Glamorous Camping
The S/S ’10 DSquared2 collection was inspired by ‘grunge goes glam’. For this look think camping with ball gowns and tents with chandeliers.
For the hair, Sam McKnight captured this ‘grunge goes glam’ inspiration by creating a hair look that screamed ‘Day 3 at Glastonbury*’ - with not so neat, random braids. Keeping it loose and individual, the models wore sometimes one, sometimes two and sometimes three braids of varying thickness, texture and positioning on the head.

Get the Look:
Firstly work mousse through the lengths of the hair to add texture and hold - ensuring the braids don’t slip out. Then randomly divide hair into one, two or even three uneven sections. Plait each section into braids of varying thicknesses.

The key to the look is keeping the braid loose. To achieve this start braiding the section of hair part way down the hair length and secure at the ends with a clear ponytail band. Then to finish the look, run your fingers from the end of the braid upwards to create this loose, dishevelled appearance. To add further texture, work the braid between the fingers.

“To ensure this look is ‘grunge goes glam’ rather than plain ‘grunge’ make sure hair is in the best condition possible before and after styling. Use a shampoo and conditioning regime that will protect hair against mechanical damage caused by this kind of styling” Sam McKnight.
